AVIF → WebP

Convert AVIF to WebP.

Turn an AVIF into a WebP, which more apps and older browsers support, while keeping the file small and transparency intact.

Two modern formats

AVIF and WebP are both web formats built to replace JPG and PNG. AVIF is newer and slightly more efficient; WebP is better supported. Converting trades a little size for compatibility.

What is kept

Transparency carries across, so cut-outs and logos keep their background. Animated AVIF is converted as a single still frame.

One re-encode

Both formats are lossy here, so this is a second compression step. At quality 90 the change is hard to see, but keep the original if it is your only copy.

How it works

  1. 01

    Upload your AVIF

Drop a file or pick one from your device. Private by default.

  2. 02

    Convert with libvips

The AVIF is decoded and re-encoded as a high-quality WebP.

  3. 03

    Download

    Grab your WebP.

Wider support than AVIF

Stays small, quality 90 WebP

Transparency kept

Private uploads, auto-deleted after 1 hour

No watermark, no signup to try

Why convert AVIF to WEBP

AVIF is a modern, space-efficient image format that plenty of apps and sites still can't open. Converting to WEBP trades a little extra file size for near-universal compatibility while keeping the visible quality.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes. Convert AVIF to WebP free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.

Is my file private?+

Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.

Why convert AVIF to WebP?+

WebP has been supported for longer, so more image editors, content systems and older browser versions accept it. It is the compact fallback when AVIF is refused.

Will the file get bigger?+

Usually a little. AVIF compresses better than WebP, so the WebP is often somewhat larger at similar quality, but still far smaller than PNG or JPG at high quality.
