Convert PNG to GIF.
Turn a PNG into a GIF for a platform that still requires GIF. Logos, icons and diagrams convert cleanly into GIF's 256 colours.
When GIF is still required
Email templates for older clients, some forum avatars, legacy intranets and a few print and sign systems accept GIF but not PNG. This converter covers those cases.
Colours and edges
Graphics with few colours, such as a logo on a plain background, map onto the GIF palette with no visible change. Soft shadows and gradients are where a GIF shows its limits.
Size change
For flat graphics, GIF is often close to the PNG in size. For photographs it is usually larger and looks worse, so keep those as PNG, JPG or WebP when you can.

Open-source libvips engine
PNG to GIF
Both are raster image formats, so this re-encodes the pixels from PNG into GIF. File size and quality follow the target format's compression. We keep the visible result as close to the original as GIF allows.
Common questions
Is it free?+
Yes. Convert PNG to GIF free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.
Is my file private?+
Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.
Will a photo look good as a GIF?+
Photos lose smooth gradients, because GIF holds 256 colours at most. Graphics with a few flat colours look almost identical.
Can I combine several PNGs into an animated GIF?+
Not with this converter, which makes one still GIF from one PNG. The GIF maker builds animations.
