A compatibility conversion

WebP is everywhere on the web, so images saved from a browser often arrive as .webp. Plenty of software still cannot open them. GIF, PNG and JPG are the safe fallbacks.

Pick the right fallback

Choose GIF for graphics with few colours or a destination that asks for GIF. For photos, WebP to JPG keeps more detail at a smaller size, and WebP to PNG keeps transparency without the colour limit.

Size change

Expect the GIF to be larger than the WebP, since WebP compresses better. For a logo or icon the difference is small.

How it works

    Upload your WebP

Drop a file or pick one from your device. Private by default.

  2. 02

The WebP is decoded and saved as a GIF with an optimised palette.

  3. 03

Open-source libvips engine

WEBP to GIF

Both are raster image formats, so this re-encodes the pixels from WEBP into GIF. File size and quality follow the target format's compression. We keep the visible result as close to the original as GIF allows.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes. Convert WebP to GIF free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.

Is my file private?+

Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.

Is an animated WebP kept animated?+

No. This converter reads the first frame and writes a still GIF. For a moving result, keep the WebP or convert the source video with MP4 to GIF.

Why would I go from WebP back to GIF?+

Some older apps, email clients and upload forms still do not accept WebP. GIF is understood almost everywhere.
