From Nikon raw data to a shareable photo

A NEF holds the unprocessed data from your Nikon's sensor — more dynamic range than a JPG and no in-camera development baked in. Converting demosaics that sensor data, applies the camera's recorded white balance, and writes a finished JPG that looks natural and opens anywhere.

Why you'd want the JPG

NEF files are large and need RAW-aware software just to view. A JPG is small, universally supported, and perfect for sharing, proofing or uploading — no special tools required at the other end.

When to edit the NEF first

The JPG locks in exposure and white balance and drops the raw editing headroom. If a shot needs real recovery — blown highlights, deep shadows, a major white-balance shift — develop the NEF in Lightroom or Capture One and export from there, and hold on to the original NEF.

What changes from NEF to JPG

NEF is a camera RAW file: the sensor's unprocessed data, with the most editing latitude. We demosaic it and apply its embedded profile to produce a standard JPG that opens anywhere and is far smaller — but no longer holds the full RAW dynamic range, so do any heavy edits before converting.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes — convert NEF to JPG free. No signup, no watermark, no daily cap.

Is my photo private?+

Uploads go to a private bucket, are converted, and auto-delete after 1 hour. Files never touch a third-party converter.

Will the colors be accurate?+

Yes — we develop with the camera's own white balance via LibRaw, so colors look natural and true to the scene.
