7z to ZIP, for the recipient who can't open it
7z compresses tighter than almost anything, which makes it great for backups and big bundles, but it isn't supported out of the box. To open one, the recipient needs 7-Zip or another tool that reads the format. ZIP opens natively on Windows, macOS and Linux, so converting is what you do when you're sending an archive to someone whose setup you don't know.
Nothing inside changes
The 7z is extracted and repacked into a ZIP unchanged: folder structure intact, every file byte-for-byte identical. You're only swapping the outer container.
Expect a larger file
ZIP's older compression isn't as aggressive as 7z's, so the ZIP will usually be bigger. That's the trade for universal compatibility. If you'd rather keep things small among people who have 7-Zip, ZIP to 7Z goes back the other way.
