Convert GIF to PDF.
Turn a GIF into a one-page PDF. Tesseract OCR reads any text in the image and adds an invisible, searchable text layer behind it.
When a GIF should be a PDF
GIF is common for old scanned forms, charts exported from legacy software and screenshots saved by older tools. A PDF is easier to attach to an email, file in a document system or print, and every phone and computer opens it without an image viewer.
What OCR adds
The converter does more than wrap the picture. Tesseract reads the text it can see and writes it as an invisible layer aligned with the words, so you can search the PDF, select a sentence and copy it. If Tesseract cannot run on a file, you still get a PDF that holds the image, without the text layer.
Size and quality
GIF is limited to 256 colours, and the PDF keeps the image exactly as stored, so nothing is sharpened or recoloured. Expect the PDF to land close to the size of the GIF; in our test a 114 KB GIF became a 97 KB searchable PDF.
How it works
- 01
Upload your GIF
Drop a file or pick one from your device. Private by default.
- 02
Read with OCR
Tesseract places the image on a PDF page and adds a hidden text layer for any words it finds.
- 03
Download
Grab your PDF.
Searchable text layer when the image contains text
The image itself is kept as it was
Private uploads, auto-deleted after 1 hour
No watermark, no signup to try
Open-source Tesseract engine, no paid API
What you get from GIF to PDF
Your GIF is uploaded and placed onto a PDF page at full resolution on our servers, so it prints and shares cleanly. Where the image holds text, a Tesseract OCR pass adds a searchable, selectable layer underneath. The picture itself is unchanged.
Common questions
Is it free?+
Yes. Convert GIF to PDF free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.
Is my file private?+
Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.
What happens to an animated GIF?+
A PDF page is a still image, so the PDF shows a single frame of the animation. If you need the motion, convert the GIF to MP4 instead.
Will the PDF be searchable?+
Yes, when the GIF contains readable text. Small, blurry or heavily dithered lettering may not be recognised, and the page still shows the image either way.
