Convert BMP to PDF.

Turn a BMP bitmap into a PDF. Tesseract OCR reads any text in the image and adds a hidden, searchable text layer.

Where BMP files come from

BMP is the native bitmap of Windows. Paint, older scanners, medical and industrial equipment and many legacy programs still write it. It is accurate but huge, and hard to share.

Why a PDF is better for documents

A PDF opens on every device, prints at the right size and can be filed alongside other paperwork. With an OCR text layer it also becomes searchable, which a BMP never is.

What the OCR can and cannot do

Tesseract reads clear printed text well. Handwriting, very small type and skewed photos are harder. When nothing can be read, the PDF still holds the full image.

How it works

  1. 01

    Upload your BMP

Drop a file or pick one from your device. Private by default.

  2. 02

    Read with OCR

Tesseract places the bitmap on a PDF page and adds a text layer for any words it recognises.

  3. 03

    Download

    Grab your PDF.

What you get from BMP to PDF

Your BMP is uploaded and placed onto a PDF page at full resolution on our servers, so it prints and shares cleanly. Where the image holds text, a Tesseract OCR pass adds a searchable, selectable layer underneath. The picture itself is unchanged.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes. Convert BMP to PDF free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.

Is my file private?+

Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.

Is a scanned BMP made searchable?+

Yes. Scanners and old Windows software often save BMP, and Tesseract reads printed text in those scans so you can search and copy it in the PDF.

Will the PDF be smaller than the BMP?+

Usually by a wide margin, because BMP stores pixels with no compression at all. In our test a 3.2 MB BMP of a text page became a 224 KB searchable PDF.
