Why GIF from a PDF

Some forums, older content systems and email signatures still only take GIF. A rendered first page also makes a light preview image for a document library or a link card.

How the page is drawn

The page is rendered at 150 DPI, which keeps body text readable at normal screen size, and then reduced to the GIF palette. Text, line art and logos survive that well, because they use few colours.

Choosing the right image format

If the page carries photographs, PNG keeps every colour and JPG keeps file size down. GIF is the right pick when the destination demands it or the page is mostly text.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes. Convert PDF to GIF free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.

Is my file private?+

Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.

Does it convert every page?+

No. This converter renders the first page only, which is what a preview or thumbnail needs. To get every page as an image, use PDF to Images.

Why does my page look grainy?+

GIF holds at most 256 colours. Text and flat diagrams look clean, but photos and gradients get banding. For a photo-heavy page, PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG keeps more detail.
