Common questions
Is my image uploaded?+
For JPG, PNG and WebP, no. The blur is applied on a canvas in your browser, so the image never leaves your device. (Formats the browser can't open are processed privately on our engine and deleted after 1 hour.)
Does this blur one part of the picture, like a face or a number plate?+
No — this blurs the whole image evenly. It's the right tool for backgrounds, wallpapers, placeholder art and thumbnails. For hiding one detail, blurring the whole picture doesn't hide it any better than cropping it out, and it costs you the rest of the photo.
Is a blurred photo safe to publish?+
Treat a blur as an aesthetic effect, not a redaction. A blur is a mathematical transform, and a light one over text or a face can sometimes be partly undone. If something genuinely must not be readable, crop it out or paint over it rather than blurring it.
What does the strength number mean?+
It's the radius of the gaussian blur, in pixels — the same number your browser and our engine both use, so the two produce the same picture. Bigger numbers spread each pixel further.
