Why editors want WAV

Many audio editors, samplers, broadcast tools and speech engines either refuse AAC or decode it again on every edit. A WAV opens instantly and stays exact while you cut, mix and export.

Decode once

Converting to WAV before you edit means the audio is decoded once, here, and every later step works on the same uncompressed samples.

Size change

Expect the WAV to be about ten times the size of the AAC. Convert back to a compressed format when you are done editing.

How it works

  1. 01

    Upload your AAC

Drop a file or pick one from your device. Private by default.

  2. 02

    Decode with ffmpeg

ffmpeg decodes the AAC and writes 16-bit PCM WAV at the original sample rate.

  3. 03

    Download

    Grab your WAV.

16-bit PCM WAV, opens everywhere

Keeps the original sample rate and channels

Private uploads, auto-deleted after 1 hour

No watermark, no signup to try

AAC to WAV: no added loss

WAV is a lossless format, so encoding into it adds no further quality loss. Note that if AAC was already lossy (like MP3 or AAC), detail discarded earlier can't be brought back. The WAV is faithful to the AAC, just larger.

Common questions

Is it free?+

Yes. Convert AAC to WAV free. No signup and no watermark. Free covers 10 server conversions a day, up to 100 MB a file. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the file limit to 2 GB.

Is my file private?+

Your file is uploaded to a private bucket, converted on our own engine, and auto-deleted after 1 hour. It is never sent to a third-party converter.

Will the WAV sound better than the AAC?+

No. WAV stores the decoded audio without further loss, but it cannot restore what the AAC encoder removed. You get the AAC's quality in a format that is easy to edit.

Why is the WAV so much bigger?+

WAV is uncompressed. Stereo audio at 44.1 kHz takes about 10 MB a minute, roughly ten times a typical AAC.
