Common questions
Is this AI?+
No, and that is the point. It measures the actual signal level and removes stretches quieter than the threshold you choose. It is deterministic: the same file and the same settings give the same result every time, with nothing sent to a third party and no model guessing at your audio.
Will it cut the ends off words?+
Only if you tell it to. Start at Normal. Aggressive treats quiet breaths as silence, which is useful for a very clean recording and too eager for a soft speaker. Short gaps are never cut — you set the minimum length, so the rhythm of speech survives.
Why does it leave a small pause?+
Because cutting silence to nothing makes sentences run into each other and sounds worse than the original. By default a short pause is left where each gap was. You can turn that off if you want everything closed up.
Can I use it on a video?+
No, and we refuse rather than doing it badly. Removing the quiet stretches from a video's soundtrack without removing the same stretches from the picture pulls the two out of sync, and it gets worse the further into the file you go. Trim a video with the Trim tool instead.
What happens to my file?+
It is uploaded over TLS, processed on our own engine — no third-party API — and both the upload and the result are deleted after 1 hour.
Is there a limit?+
